This talk considers some recent digitisation projects that connect both scholarly and public audiences with medieval illuminated manuscripts, and considers some of their consequences (intended as well as unintended). Of special note will be the scholarly applications for manuscript facsimiles on iPad, online catalogues (especially but not exclusively those based on UK collections), and tensions between the different audiences that use these tools. How best should we mediate the different requirements of the general public, students, and experts?
